Chile Day 17: DTS or EDE

I just want to let all of my family and readers know that I will not be able to keep up my daily post. There is a program here called EDE (DTS). I was thinking, praying and talking to people. I feel that it is a good use of my time to take this class. This class is an all day 5 day a week class and a little on weekends. I moved from where I was staying to a smaller house that I share with 2 Chileans, 1 Peruvian, 1 Ecuadorian, 1 Brazilian and me. They all speak Spanish and the Brazilian speaks Portuguese also. I am the only one who speaks English. It is a little bit difficult to communicate with them in Spanish but I am learning faster than ever now. I like this discipleship class so far. It is a nice class. There is someone in it who also speaks English so she translates a little for me.

Chile Day 15: Curcus and Grandfather

Today was Sunday so we went to a different church where the family from New Zealand was going to give the talk at. He did a great job at the talk. The church was all Spanish speaking so there was a translator. That evening we had lasagna with the visiting family. Afterwards, us and one Chilean went to the nearby Chinese Circus. It was about average. I heard this afternoon/evening that my grandfather had went in earlier in the morning for emergency gall bladder surgery. This is life threatening to him because he is 85 and has had serious abominable surgery before. Please keep him in your prayers.

Chile Day 14: Two weeks

Well This is the mark of being here in Chile for 2 weeks. We had 2 visitors from New Zealand drop by for dinner today. We also went toe the Lider to go and shop for some food for today. I am posting this a day later because I was getting a movie ready to watch with everyone and we lost power. We were not the only ones who lost power. 10 million people lost power in Chile. More than 2/3 of the country was in a blackout. The electricity came back up about 3 hrs later during our movie. But it left us without Internet or Water until the morning.

Today I worked setting up some rooms for a conference thing. In the afternoon I cleaned some rooms. That evening I went to a going away/birthday party. We had some great tacos and some good drinks and cake. Late that night we had another party. We had dancing and karaoke. I love to dance the Salsa. They had me sing a Brittany Spears song in English and the theme song to Titanic in Spanish. I did better in Spanish. Then we went back to dancing till 2 Sat morning. It was a late night.

Today I went with the family when they went to school. When I got back I went with Mrs. Fought to go and clean a room for someone nicknames the “Kiwis” who were coming in from New Zealand. After that I joined the guys and worked some more. After lunch we went to go and pick up them at school. When we came back we played a small game of soccer with the Colombians and other people that usually don't play soccer. After dinner they have a weekly family meeting for everyone on the base. At the meeting there was lots of food and bread which is a plus.

Chile Day 9

Well today we all slept in really late. After lunch 12 of us from the Mission went to "Parque O'Higgins." It was really crowded there. It took us about 45 minutes just to get off the metro. It was completely packed. You were almost herded. About halfway thru some military jets did a fly-by and shook the overpass then everyone started to move faster in a crowed place. The military was also having a parade which had a large crowd. We were supposed to meet a friend there. It took us a while to find her because of the crowds. We spent a while there. Minus the crows of people it was fun to walk around.

Chile Day 8:

Today we went to church in downtown Santiago Chile. On the way back we got to drive by the Chile version of the White House. This evening we had some more "Dieciocho" activates. After the activates some friends and I went to the girls hut. We had some apple/pear cobbler and drank soda. Late that night we decided to watch a movie. We finished at about 1 something in the morning. We were all very tired.
Us playing a card game that involves markers. It was fun.

It is a cross between mostly soccer, hockey and basketball. After that Ethan, some of his friends and I went to the mall. We all had to squish into a car. We had lots of fun walking around at the mall. We also went to a local park down the road.

Chile Day 5:

Well today was a lazy day. Everyone as recovering from last night. I worked again today planting some bushes and mowing. After working most of the day the guys went out to play a game of soccer from 6-8PM. This is no ordinary soccer game. the losing team is allowed to get physical with their opponent and shove and trip a little bit. I came out of the game with a banged up elbow.

Chile Day 4: Dieciocho

Well today was an exciting day. At 4:35AM a 5.9 earthquake hit. It lasted 32 seconds and shook everything a lot. There was not much damage. In the morning I worked again to prepare for “Dieciocho”. At roughly 1:30PM the whole village of 70 or so sat down for some food. They had some really good food and some special Chilean like burrito sandwich. After food there were games thought the afternoon until about 5:15M. We had about 45 minutes to prepare and cleanup and change for the evening activates. Tonight we had some more food and later in the night some people danced the Cueca. Then we had more food. After that there was an after-party at the boys hut. It was too cold there to do anything so we went to the "Solon". Most of the guys asked out many of the girls. I asked out one of the Colombian girls. I had a blast at the after-party. She taught me most of the local dances. It was extremely fun. We started at about 7 and went till midnight.

Here are some photos.

Chile Day 3

Well tomorrow the Mission that I am staying at is celebrating "Dieciocho de Septiembre". That day is their independence day. They celebrate all week long. Today I worked with 2 girls from Colombia, one boy from Mexico, and 6 people from Chile. We setup a structure to have the event in. On the sides we places large branches of some local evergreen trees. We also set up some tables and put up some decorations. That took most of the day. In the evening from like 5-8 we played a epic game of soccer. We played on a soccer field/cow pasture. So as you can guess we well stepped in it and the ball went in it a lot.

During lunch we all played soccer. After school we played some more soccer. At the school  I had a small conversation with someone who only spoke Spanish. It was not extremely hared because he spoke nice and slow. We also went to a Chilean version of Wal-mart. I am able to tell for the most part what the stuff is by some of the words and items.

Want Windows 8 On Your Computer? Get Mosaic

Who likes the new look of Windows 8? I do. If you want your Windows PC to look more like it download Mosaic Desktop. This program will make your PC look more like a Windows 8 PC. Mosaic is not Windows 8 at all but it is good eye candy. When you originally start up Mosaic you have a few tiles, but you can go to the Mosaic store to install new tiles. Some examples of the tiles that you can down load are: weather, your currently playing music, upcoming Google Calendar events, new Gmail messages, and more. It would make a nice Start page for simple email and calendar checking.
Mosaic Desktop is a free download for Windows only.
